Don't Have a Passport? Get a Card!
Getting a U.S. Passport can be costly, in both time and money… but there is a new option for limited use in cruise ports and border facilities in Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. It's called a U.S. Passport Card, and it costs almost half of what getting a normal passport does. The costs are minimal and range from $20 as a passport renewal to $45 for first-time adult applicants.
The Department of State is issuing the cards in response to the tighter border controls and the need for residents who frequently travel across borders a less expensive and more portable alternative to the normal passport. These cards will have the same validity as a passport book, but cannot be used for air travel.
